How To Clean Outdoor Cushions: When you purchase Summer Classics® furniture, you’re making an investment in high-quality outdoor furniture designed to last. We honor that investment by carefully creating these timeless pieces.
Just as we choose a variety of stones, woods and metals, all the fabric lines used by Summer Classics® for outdoor cushions were carefully selected for their outstanding craftsmanship, durability and fade-resistance. But to maintain optimal quality, your outdoor cushions need routine cleaning.
In general, it is important to clean outdoor cushions regularly to prevent dirt from accumulating and deteriorating the fabric. Dirt is an abrasive, and like sandpaper, will mar the structural integrity of the fibers and any protective coatings it may have. To clean outdoor cushions, simply vacuum or brush off any loose dirt or grime (I have seen a comical but effective cushion cleaning involving a tennis racket), and rinse or spot clean with lukewarm water as needed.
Only use water based cleaning agents. Do not use harsh detergents on any of our fabrics, as it may damage the water resistance of the material.
And never clean outdoor cushions with a pressure washer. Most of our outdoor fabrics we use are loom-woven, and backed with a rubberized coating to hold the threads in place and create a water-resistant base; any excessive pressure can tear through the material, causing the outdoor cushions to hold moisture and to mold or mildew. Summer Classics outdoor cushions have, surrounding the foam and Dacron batting, a water resistant jacket that can also be damaged from pressure washing.
To spot-clean stains, or for more intensive cleaning, follow these manufacturer’s instructions:
To clean outdoor cushions with Outdura® fabrics:
Use a solution of lukewarm water (not exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit) and a mild natural soap, like Ivory. Rinse thoroughly to remove any excess soap. For particularly stubborn stains, a mild bleach/water mixture may be used as needed. Be sure to rinse well. For more information: http://www.sattler-ag.com/outdura/en/care-cleaning-785.jsp
To clean outdoor cushions with Bella-Dura® fabrics:
In general, spot-clean with a water-based cleaner or mild soap. A bleach/water mixture may be used as needed. Apply cleaning solution and blot with a clean, dry cloth. For more information: http://www.bella-dura.com/care.php

From Summer Classics Warranty Instructions:
…SUMMER CLASSICS RECOMMENDS STORING CUSHIONS INSIDE WHEN NOT IN USE.
Remember, although outdoor fabrics all have Ultra-Violet light inhibitors, the sun and weather will eventually degrade the cushion. Storing the cushions indoors when not in use will prolong the life of the cushions significantly.
CUSHIONS ARE NOT WATER PROOF.
Most Summer Classics cushions have a water-resistant jacket underneath the fabric, which resists water from soaking the cushion cores. Older cushions did not have these jackets (or zippers for that matter), and we would have to wait many days for a cushion to dry, and only if it was standing on its corner so the water could weep out of the seams. The new water-resistant jacket allows us to enjoy our furniture much sooner after a rain, especially with a little elbow grease and a quick towel dry!
TO DRAIN THE WATER FROM CUSHIONS PLEASE UNZIP CUSHION THEN TURN THE CUSHION ZIPPER SIDE DOWN, REMOVING CORES FROM THE CUSHION SLIP IS NOT RECOMMENDED…MACHINE DRYING A CUSHION SLIP (FABRIC) CAN RESULT IN SHRINKAGE…
The drainage zippers allow any water that has entered the cushion to evaporate quickly and/or flow out. But the fabric sleeve is not intended to be removable. Our highly trained, Summer Classics filling (not filing) department takes great care to form the perfect cushion, and use special tools to make the cushions look just right. Please do not take the cushions apart, and they should last for many years. Also, please resist the urge to machine wash your sleeves. Many outdoor fabrics have special coatings, backings or other outdoor technology designed to make your fabric last in outdoor weather conditions. Machine washing will degrade that technology, and decrease the life and look of your cushion.
Remember, a little prevention goes a long way to protecting your investment and enjoying your Summer Classics furniture for years to come.
