One thing we’re good at in the South is throwing a party. And in August, Summer Classics played gracious host during our annual garden party. We opened the doors of our 40,000-square-foot Pelham, Ala., flagship store to welcome dealers, vendors and staff from across the country for a day of entertaining presentations, followed by dinner and awards.
Having such a vast retail space can be challenging, but just as we’re innovators in the patio furniture industry, we’ve worked hard to create a truly stunning, innovative showroom. Our Pelham store is tucked off a busy road, nestled in a thicket of trees. Pull into our gravel drive to be greeted by neatly clipped hedges, exquisite landscaping and cheery Summer Classics umbrellas, and visitors instantly feel a sense of ease. Inside the store, our carefully designed patio vignettes show off our beautiful furniture lines while exuding a warm airiness and casual charm that naturally invite conversation.
One of those conversations was to give dealers a sneak peek of our new product line, which makes its debut at the casual market in Chicago, Sept. 17–20. We have 6 new outdoor furniture collections and several additions to existing collections, new finish options and fabrics line.
Another focus of our garden party was to impress upon our guests the importance of intuitiveness for a successful business. “As an industry, we need to be proactive with our customers by giving them what they need so they never have to ask for it,” said Bew White III, Summer Classics CEO. To further drive home that message, we lined up some impressive guest speakers, including fashion TV mogul and Emmy Award winner Michael Young and wealth-management firm owner Stewart Welch. Other sessions with Southern Classics staff emphasized that intuition during seminars on products, programs and retail strategies.
We kept the party going that evening with cocktails on the terrace of the exclusive Mountain Brook Club, followed by dinner and an awards presentation that honored outstanding achievements among vendors and staff.
The well-attended garden party was a huge success, and like any good hosts, we made sure our guests left with a sense of our hospitality as well as a refreshed appreciation for the innovative, superb patio furniture we create.
