Summer Classics’ newest White Label Collection lives up to its name. Spanish for “steel,” we created these products to be strong, sleek and elegant just like the material that comprises them. While this contemporary collection looks simple and effortless – with its sophisticated gray color scheme and unembellished aesthetic – its creation was a labor of love. Behind Acero, as well as every Summer Classics collection, is a team of dedicated designers and product engineers who won’t settle for “good enough.” With every product, our team aims for luxury looks. The story of Acero’s creation not only signifies Summer Classics’ tireless pursuit of perfection, but also our new ideas for 2017. In the new year, we want to integrate more unique materials like steel into our collections, while maintaining the style and comfort that is central to our brand.
As any designer knows, initial ideas often take continuous reshaping and revising in order to produce remarkable outcomes. For the Acero Collection, the original idea was a European antique design. Specifically, the first sketches for this new collection included a traditional X-back detail and intricate, curved features. While the classic X did make its way into the final product, the antique look was discarded in favor of something more modern. Lead designer Matt Scallions explains, “We wanted something clean-lined that was very honest in its material and craftsmanship.” This simple look eventually became the basis of this steel collection’s final product. However, although the aesthetic had been chosen, the right selection of materials for this new modern collection was still nebulous.
To achieve this “clean-lined” elegant look, product designers made several samples in a variety of materials such as aluminum and wicker. But according to Scallions, “none of them felt ‘right.’” Our team continued to search for materials that would do justice to the sophisticated, modern aesthetic that they envisioned. Finally, they found a sufficient pair. Scallions explains, “When we made the decision to go with Stainless and Sunbrella Cast Slate fabric, the duo was an obvious decision.” This marine-grade stainless steel frame evokes an authentic, refined look. Known for its resistance to corrosion and rust, it’s incredibly durable. The Sunbrella fabric , upholstered over reticulated foam cushions, is also remarkable in its strength. It’s made to last, without getting stains or growing mildew, and its quality is unaffected by constant exposure to direct sunlight. Beyond these materials’ durability, the Sunbrella and steel combination is also an aesthetic victory. Scallions notes, “The tones of the fabric complement the color of the stainless and gives it a contemporary yet comfortable feeling.” This unique combination of materials achieves a balance between warm comfort and cool minimalism. This resulting monochromatic look is a refreshing new addition to our luxury White Label furniture line.
As designers of high-end furniture, Summer Classics is a trend-driven team that incorporates customer insights into our products in creative ways. While designing Acero, we recognized that stainless steel is being requested more and more. As such, one of our goals for 2017 is to introduce steel into our newest collections. Scallions adds that traditionally, “outdoor manufacturers use stainless and sling or stainless and teak combinations.” While we recently chose the traditional route with our new Delray Collection – made of teak, sling, and stainless steel – we wanted to use steel in a more unique way with Acero. The final product, we believe, embodies this distinctive use of steel, combined with our consistent goal to create durable, comfortable, and stylish luxury furniture.
Like C.E.O. and founder, Bew White, intended, each White Label collection boasts complete luxury, achieved through careful attention to every detail of the creation process. The Acero Collection is no exception to this practice. From the original idea to the first sample product, our designers worked relentlessly. The result of this hard work is a unique, modern look of stainless steel and upholstry. Acero has been successful at recent markets such as Altanta and High Point, and we’re delighted that our customers enjoy this product like we do. It’s all part of our mission to help create life’s best moments. Furnished.
