Nestled in the heart of Birmingham, AL, is the city of Homewood, a community that is rich in local landmarks and traditions. But what makes this community so attractive, is the family-filled neighborhoods lined with a combination of historical, new and remodeled homes.
Summer Classics Home in Pelham has been a part of Birmingham’s interior design scene and outfitting these homes for as long as we can remember. The houses in Homewood and Edgewood are close and neighborly, so it’s important for these homeowners to have a warm and inviting space; complete with the South’s most comfortable home furnishings from Summer Classics and Gabby!
We’re excited to have the chance to showcase some of our furnishings alongside some of Birmingham’s best interior designers in this year’s Birmingham Home and Garden Inspiration Home built in Homewood, AL.
Birmingham Interior Designers
Every year, Birmingham Home and Garden Magazine partners with local builders, contractors, interior designers, and retailers to renovate a home in the Birmingham area and turn it into a show house. Each design group is given a designated room or area in the house to decorate, which then is opened up to the community for self-guided tours, and is then sold to a loving family! One cool concept about the Birmingham Home and Garden Inspiration Home is that the new homeowners have the opportunity to purchase any number of furnishings to keep in the home if it fits their style.
We’re happy to announce that the new homeowners are certainly enjoying Life’s Best Moments… Furnished™ by Summer Classics Home. Here’s a glimpse inside the home and the many rooms that incorporated Gabby and Summer Classics furniture.
First Impression: Front Porch Design
Though this home may not appear grand at first glance, there is more to it than meets the eye. This project is a fresh take on a Southern Cottage Home. The red cedar, hand-split roofing shakes from Emack Slate Co. along with the floor-to-ceiling windows from Southern Sash, adds to the charming feel of the home.
To go along with the quaint exterior, the surrounding landscape, designed by Falkner Gardens, makes for a welcoming first impression. And then greeted with boxwoods, bright colors, and Summer Classics Lounge furniture on the front porch sets the stage for the rest of this Birmingham interior design home.
Grand Entrance: a Foyer that Tells a Story
Equally important as the front porch, the foyer is the first impression guests will have of a home, so always try to make it as special and unique as you can. The simple placement of family portraits, coffee table books, and lighting made all the difference in this space. Don’t you think?
Be Our Guest: Bedrooms with Style
When designing a guest bedroom it’s important to keep the idea of hospitality in mind. Remember to keep the space soft, clean, and inviting. This guest bedroom designed by Three Sheets did just that by using soft neutrals mixed with a pop of color and natural elements creating a welcoming guest bedroom design.

Patio Perfection: a Suburban Retreat
Finally, an extension off the living room and kitchen, this porch offers the perfect entertaining space for cozy evenings in front of the gorgeous fireplace. Soon, this family will be enjoying warm summer nights mixing cocktails from the Italia Barcart. The use of mixed materials, from the wicker lounge chairs to the aluminum sofa, and upholstered poufs, adds texture and elegance to this back porch design.
