Do you like antiques? Do you like the excitement of taking something old and giving it a new life? At Summer Classics Home, we have a passion for hunting down the most unique finds out there to enhance our nation-wide showrooms.
If you’ve ever felt the thrill of the hunt, you know there’s nothing else like it. For antique dealers, the adrenaline rush they get when they find that perfect, one-of-a-kind piece is like going over the edge on a roller coaster and knowing there’s no going back. It’s the ah-ha moment that stops you dead in your tracks. It’s the mind-racing panic of “How much is it? I don’t care! I have to have it NOW!” It’s what drives President of Gabriella White, LLC, William White, and Gabby and Summer Classics creative director, Chris Hutchens, to pack their bags for the South of France every summer where they spend a week seeking out those unique finds that add that extra je ne sais quoi to the Gabby collection.
William and Chris have traveled all over the world to find those one-of-a-kind items and bring them back to our Summer Classic Home showroom’s in order to give our customers an experience they cannot find anywhere else.
“We’re not trying to turn into antiques dealers at Summer Classics Home,” says Chris. “We like to focus on what we do well and make it even better. Mixing antiques in with our collections adds that extra layer of interest, energy, and patina to our showrooms—just like they would in someone’s home.”
In other words, we are seasoned veterans of antique hunting, and we want to share our best strategies for antique hunting with you. Whether you are antique hunting abroad in Europe or at your local antiques dealer in town, here are a few tips sure to make your shopping trip easier:
Arrive early and be prepared to make quick purchasing decisions. Have an idea in mind of what it is you are hoping to find. Of course you can never plan what you will find at an antique sale – but having an idea will prepare you to make a smart buying decision.
Check for Defects
First thing is first, you are not going to walk into an antique sale and not find anything with a slight bit of damage – BUT, you do want to make sure that the item is not completely defective.
Don’t be afraid to ask plenty of questions about an item you are considering buying. It is always nice to learn the history behind an antique as it can make for a great story when showing the item to others.
Be sure to RSVP for our Unique Finds Antique Sale happening on April 12th at our Summer Classics Home Outlet location in Pelham, AL: http://www.furnishedmoments.com/uniquefinds/
